Towards Wholeness
mixed media, 6x6 inches
This is a recent panel that I made. I have been using a lot of black, and darker colors in general, in my paintings lately. I wonder why? Hmmmm...
Lately I have been listening to book on cd while I work in my studio. When I made this panel I was finishing up listening to Eckhart Tolle's book A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life's Purpose (Oprah's Book Club, Selection 61)
Anyway, the title of this piece reflects what I have been listening to. I do feel that somehow this piece embodies those words. Fragility, impermanence, our striving to survive in this world. But survive in a way that is whole and healthy. Acceptance of limitations, appreciation of what is beautiful.
This panel is waiting to be bound as a cover of a blank journal.
I love the depth to this piece as it sits against the transparency and lightness of the plant. Gorgeous.

I have never read Tolle's book (nor listened to a book ) but the themes of fragility, impermanence, acceptance, survival and beauty certainly sum up the themes found in many artworks. I think of the creation of a connected body of art works as another form of text.
ReplyDeleteI just added your blog to my blog list and I'm enjoying your posts.
Thank you Courtney!
ReplyDeleteH Margaret, thanks for stopping by. I agree with what you wrote, although I've never thought of it in that way- as another body of text. Interesting. Thank you!
lovely piece Bridgette - personally? I love working with dark colors - they have a deepness and richness that I love :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful as ever - I just love the fragility of this piece; makes me feel like rushing into the garden to gather leaves and honesty seed pods - even though it is pitch dark!
ReplyDeleteI think I need to experiment with ways to embed them into my own art play (I cannot pretend to be other than a player here, no way 'an artist').
I have both the book and I too listen to his voice on CD as I drive through the forest and as I do my calligraphy. How interesting to find another artist who does the same... May he instill you with peace. To deepen your reflections you may wish to read Sandra Maitri or A.H Almaas... Happy painting.
ReplyDeleteGreat piece of work! Like Tolle;o)
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone again for your comments on this piece.
ReplyDeleteAnge- thanks for the recommendations, i will have to check them out.
