learn from the earth

learn_from_the_earth
learn from the earth oil and mixed media, 12x16 inches

**edited: new photo of painting replaced really bad old photo 3/9/09**

I had the morning for studio time today and when I entered the studio I felt giddy. I was just so excited to be there and opening up my tubs of paint. Absence makes the heart grow fonder. This is a painting that I have been working on a while. It actually was started back in 2007, but the original painting I had in mind never took off. I guess it was waiting all this time for this one. Although my mixed media journal cover that I created a few weeks ago really kicked it into gear. Often my journal covers are prelims to larger paintings.

When I am painting I am in love with the world. I know, I know. So cheesy, but it's true. I probably need to re-photograph this one. Colors are not quite right. But close enough. And there are bits of glare. Still trying to work on my photographing techniques

i like the mid-line division...it's dramatic and beautifully balanced. I also love the time worn/aged look of your pieces bridgette.

I love your giddiness. I am at my absolute artistic best when I am am happy, and when I am painting - when I have found the time & am in the moment - I too am giddy. I must remind myself to breathe. LOL! This is a beautiful piece - you should feel happy!

Could you bump up the ISO on your digital camera and photograph without a flash? Just a thought. I finally figured out how to do that on mine.

Lovely painting, Bridgette, just lovely.

I'm still working on my photographing artwork technique too. It's a lot harder than it looks.

Thank you all for your comments and support!

Meri-the flash was turned off. I think I need to reposition my light sources. I'll try again tomorrow. Thanks for the tip.

Thanks Angela. It is harder than it looks! Now that I'm working larger I can't fit them in my scanner bed.

i Know what you mean about being in love with the world when you are painting. I love "learn from the earth" and your journal cover, and how the smaller work leads to the large. Your gift is beautiful...
